Wastewater Engineering

08 September 2022

Acquisition of knowledge of design, dimensioning and critical analysis in the area of waste water treatment engineering, namely in the dimensioning of WWTP operations and processes. The acquired skills provide capabilities for professional activity in the area of design, exploration or research. The content of the UC includes compact systems, decentralized systems, intensive systems and reuse. It allows to accumulate knowledge of the treatment of the liquid phase, the solid phase, the gas phase, as well as the management of waste generated in WWTP and its potential for energy or other recovery. Reuse will be one of the focuses, given the problems of climate change and the scarcity of water (SDG 6). The aspects related to energy (savings and production) will be addressed, taking into account the weight that the Water Treatment sector represents in electricity consumption at the country level and the commitment to carbon neutrality.
