The purpose of this course is to give a general perspective on the formation of the contemporary world. In order to do so the course pays particular attention to the institutional change that appeared in Europe and North America from the eighteenth century onwards leading to the creation of modern political and economic inclusive institutions. Relevant course content include: how wealth and poverty are created, reactions against inclusiveness, the rise of inequality, the challenge to inclusive institutions, epidemics and their economic effects, ethics and inclusive institutions.
