Learning of basic concepts for a holistic understanding of the problem and importance of waste management, the functioning of waste management systems and the role of the environment engineer in waste management. At the end of this UC the student must have acquired the knowledge and skills that enable him to: understand the importance of waste management in the context of the circular economy and its relation with other global problems; understand the applicable policies and legislation, the main actors (guardianship, regulator, inspection and operators) and the operation of the technological components of an integrated waste management system; be able to identify the waste by the ELW codes, know how to complete the SIRER registration forms and the electronic guides for the transport of waste (e.GAR), plan a waste characterization and quantification campaign, and to calculate and critically analyze waste management indicators.
