This Course will focus on causes of poverty, radicalization and armed conflict. The climate change impact on regions already marked by decades of poverty and conflict , such as the Sahel and the Horn of Africa, the Middle East and South East Africa will be explored for its multiplying effect on the aforementioned trends that is students will be challenged to assess climate change not as a cause of conflict but for its escalating effect. Due to this specific focus of the Programme the course will expose students to the importance of advancing SDG 1 ( that is erradicting poverty), granting access to critical ressources to more vulnerable groups particularly land and water (SDG8 and SDG6) against the background of mitigating the worst effects of climate change (SDG13).
