The course introduces fundamental philosophical and cultural differences between oriental and western thought. The course discusses government economic reforms and policies that took place in order to drive key industrial sectors, productivity and trade will investigate the key factors of China’s growth and transformation from a subsistence to a major global economy. The course discusses energy and acquisition of natural resources as a driving force for industrial productivity and their geopolitical implications. The course will investigate the conflict between the economy and the environment to maintain its momentum of economic growth and social stability. It will discuss China and the WTO, IPR, subsidies and dumping, the entry of foreign enterprises in China and China’s penetration into international markets leading towards internationalism. Finally, the course will investigate China’s impact on global infrastructure, development, and investment in the Belt and Road initiative.
