ConCO2rde is a research project focused on one of the biggest environmental problems today: carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere. The objective is to capture CO2 into the economy, ensuring sustainable sources of energy and materials for future generations. The project, with the participation of ITQB NOVA, uses the so-called autotrophic bacteria (ie those that, using an energy source, are able to transform inorganic substances into organic ones) to transform CO2 into biomass and other high-value organic compounds.
At the same time, ConCO2rde aims to be a doctoral training program offering scientific knowledge in key areas of biotechnology, providing the necessary skills to develop and implement new biotechnological and sustainable processes.
